A
size, host, location in host, modifications of buccal capsule, and the existence of a bursa are particularly useful.
- shape of bursa and spinicules (male organs), and shape and size of vulva modifications
- integument, pseudocoel (body cavity), alimentary tract and reproductive tract (when in X-section)

What are the general identifying characteristics of nematodes?
A
- Free living or parasitic
- Usually unsegmented, elongated and cylindrical in shape
- A complete alimentary canal is present
- Sexes are usually separate and the females are generally larger than males

What are the diagnostic stages used for identification during necropsy?
A
- At necropsy -> adult worms, sometimes larval stages as well.

A
- eggs in feces,
- L1 in feces, vomit or blood,
- sometimes adult parasites in vomit and feces
