How do you test for olfactory?
Animals ability to find food or react to a smell
What are the 12 nerves in order?
Olfactory, optic, oculomotor, trochlear, trigeminal, abducens, facial, vestibulocochlear, glossopharyngeal, vegus, accessory, hypoglossal.
How do you test for optic?
Cotton balls can be dropped and the animal observed watching them fall to the floor
How do you test for oculomotor?
Pupillary light reflex test
How do you test for trochlear?
Eyeballs should be observed for vertical misalignment
How do you test for trigeminal?
Jaw tone and masticatory movements should be evaluated and palpated for atrophy. And touching of the eyelid for the reaction of closing.
How do you test for abducens?
Eyeballs should be observed for medial strabismus.
How do you test for facial?
Menace and palpebral reflexes should be elicited. Nose should be examined for deviations, ear should be tickled to see if it moves. Bitter substance on tongue for taste test. Tear test should be performed.
How do you test for vestibulocochlear?
When loud noises do not evoke a response.
How do you test for glossopharyngeal and Vegus?
Hyoid bones pinched for gag reflex?
How do you test for spinal accessory?
Muscles should be palpated.
