nerves Flashcards
(39 cards)
what are the four branches of the median nerve?
anterior interosseous branch
palmar cutaneous branch
lateral (recurrent) branch
medial branch
where does the anterior interosseous branch of the median nerve go?
descends down the forearm on the anterior surface of the interosseous membrane between FPL and FDP. It runs deep to pronator quadratus and ends at the wrist
whats the motor supply of the anterior interosseous branch of the median nerve?
FPL
FDP (lateral 1/2)
pronator quadratus
whats the sensory supply of the anterior interosseous branch of the median nerve?
articular branches to the radiocarpal and interarpal joints
where does the palmar cutaneous branch of the median nerve go?
superficially down the forearm and passes over the flexor retinaculum to enter the palm
whats the sensory supply of the palmar cutaneous branch of the median nerve?
skin on lateral side of palm and thenar eminance
where does the lateral recurrent branch of the median nerve go?
passes laterally and proximally to supply mainly the muscles of the thenar eminance
whats the motor supply of the lateral recurrent branch of the median nerve?
abductor pollicis brevis
FPB
opponens brevis
1st lumbrical
whats the sensory supply of the lateral recurrent branch of the median nerve?
skin on adjacent sides of the thumb and index finger
where does the medial branch of the median nerve run?
divides into several palmar digital nerves. they pass through the palm, deep to the palmar aponeurosis but superficial to the long flexor tendons
whats the motor supply of the medial branch of the median nerve?
2nd lumbrical
whats the sensory supply of the medial branch of the median nerve?
palmar surface of lateral 3 1/2 digits
dorsal aspect of distal phalanges of 3 1/2 digits
articular branches to MCP and IP joints
what does the posterior cutaneous branch of the radial nerve (arm) supply?
skin on the proximal third of the arm posteriorly
what does the lateral cutaneous branch of the radial nerve supply?
skin on the lower lateral part of the arm and small area on forearm
what does the posterior cutaneous branch of the radial nerve (forearm) supply?
skin on dorsum of forearm as far as the wrist
what does the deep posterior interosseous branch of the radial nerve supply (motor)?
supinator, ECRB, ED, EDM, ECU, EPL, EI, APL, EPB
what does the deep posterior interosseous branch of the radial nerve supply (sensory)?
articular branches to the intercarpal joints
what does the superficial branch of the radial nerve supply (motor)?
none
what does the superficial branch of the radial nerve supply (sensory)?
skin on the dorsolateral aspect of the wrist and hand
dorsum of the lateral 3 1/2 digits as far as the distal IP joints
articular branches to MCP and PIP joints
where does the superficial branch of the ulnar nerve run?
lies deep to palmaris brevis on the medial side of the hand
motor supply of superficial branch of ulnar nerve
palmaris brevis
sensory supply of superficial branch of ulnar nerve
skin on medial third of the palm, palmar surface of the medial 1 1/2 digits, dorsal aspect of the distal phalanges of the medial 1 1/2 digits
path of deep branch of ulnar nerve
follows the path of the deep palmar arch (deep branch of ulnar artery) to cross the lateral side of the palm
motor supply of deep branch ulnar nerve
FDM, abductor digiti minimi, opponens digiti minimi, dorsal interossei, palmar interossei, adductor pollicis, medial 2 lumbricals
