Q

Central nervous system

A

Includes the brain and the spinal cord, They are so important to the human body that they are encased in bone for protection.

Q

Neurons

A

are cells specialized to receive, carry and transmit information to other cells.
Bundles of neurons are called nerves.
While neurons can be different sizes, they have a similar structure and function in a similar way.
There are three categories of neurons:
Sensory Neurons
Motor Neurons
Interneurons

Q

Sensory neurons

A

Carry info from sensw receptors to spinal cord and brain. One way telephone call to brain. Involves senses like touch (pain), hearing, vision, taste, smell

Q

Motor neurons

A

send messages away from the brain to the muscles, organs and glands so that they can take action.
This helps your brain complete tasks, like to catch a ball or pick up a pen to write.

Q

Interneurons

A

Sensory and motor neurons do not communicate directly with each other. Instead, they rely on the interneurons to fill the gap in communication. neurons which transmit impulses between other neurons, especially as part of a reflex arc.
They relay messages from sensory neurons to other interneurons or motor neurons in complex pathways.
This can cause some confusion within the nervous system when our sensory doesn’t match our motor feedback system

Q

Somatic neurvous system

A

The somatic nervous system is the part of the peripheral nervous system associated with the voluntary control of body movements via skeletal muscles.

Q

Autonomic

A

The autonomic nervous system is part of the nervous system responsible for control of the bodily functions not consciously directed, such as breathing, the heartbeat, and digestive processes
-sympathetic nervous system (gas pedal): A part of the nervous system that serves to accelerate the heart rate, constrict blood vessels, and raise blood pressure.
-parasympathetic nervous system (brake): Conserves energy as it slows the heart rate, increases intestinal and gland activity, and promotes production of hormones related to sleep
