nervous system Flashcards
(11 cards)
What does the Central Nervous System consist of?
Brain and spinal cord
What is the function of the Central Nervous System
Processes messages from sense organs and controls responses from muscles and glands.
What does the Peripheral Nervous System consist of?
Nerves, nerves cell and neurons
What is the function of the Peripheral Nervous system?
Relays messages between sense organs, the CNS, and muscles and glands.
What are the two systems that Peripheral Nervous System is split into?
Somatic Nervous System & Autonomic Nervous System
Functions of Somatic Nervous System
- voluntary movements
- reflexes with voluntary muscles, e.g. taking your hand off a hot pot to avoid burn
Functions of Autonomic Nervous System
- involuntary movements/unconscious actions
- essential body functions e.g. breathing
Two divisions of Autonomic Nervous System
Sympathetic Nervous System & Parasympathetic Nervous System
Function of Sympathetic N.S
Prepares the body for stressful situations, increases heart rate and releases adrenaline
Function of Parasympathetic N.S
Responsible for rest and digestion response after body relax, Decreases heart rate and increases digestion
What does DANSMAC stands for?
Dendrite
Axon
Nucleus
Synapse
Myelin Seath
Axon Terminal
Cell Body
