nervous system 2 Flashcards
(16 cards)
organs of transduction change
energy one form to another
name the 4 types of receptors
1) thermoreceptors - convert heat or cold energy
2) chemoreceptors- change chemical energy to electricity
3) photoreceptors- convert light energy to electricity
4) mechanoreceptors- mechanical movement
name the 4 mechanoreceptors
1) light touch
2) pressure
3) pain
4) proprioception
cerebrum
receives sensory info and motor or muscle control is generated. initiates voluntary movement
gray matter
cortex is on the outside. where the synapse is located
cortex
made of gray matter where cell body’s are located
white matter
is myelinated. deep to gray matter
hemispheres
right and left
diencephalon
central core
cerebellum
smooth, coordinated movements.
brain stem
mid brain
medulla oblongata
life support. houses the major autonomic reflux center that relays motor control to the heart, blood vessels ,respiratory and gut tube
spinal cord
white matter is now on the outside being
myelinated
gray matter is deep to white matter. where synapse occur
peripheral system - structure of spinal nerve
1) dorsal root - sensory info comes into the spinal cord. input/afferent
2) ventral root - motor info to muscle and gland. output/efferent
3) spinal nerve trunk - mixed nerve. both sensory and motor
somatic branches - body
1) dorsal ramus - crosses the transverse process. mixed nerve both sensory and motor
2) ventral ramus - forms the intercostal nerves between ribs, abdominal wall, neck wall, both limbs. mixed nerves both sensory and motor
cranial nerve summary
I - olfactory nerve - sense of smell - nose
II - optic nerve - visual impulse - eyes
V - trigeminal nerve - sense form the face
VII - facial nerve -
S - taste buds
M- motor nerve of the face
VIII - vestibulocochlear nerve - hearing & equilibrium
X - vegus nerve -
S - sensations form the pharynx, esophagus, stomach, sm intestine, 1/2 lg intestine, respiratory passages
M- respiratory and digestive systems. motor control to he heart muscle
