NetApp Cloud Manager Fundamentals Flashcards
What is NetAPP Cloud manager?
A Centralised system for viewin gun managing on-premises storage and cloud storage.
Supporting hybrid and multiple cloud provides and accounts.
It allows for optimised cloud storage services to your users.
It is also just known as Cloud Manager.
What are the benefits of Cloud Manager?
Centralised Management
Control multiple NetAPP based storage systems on premises, with cloud
Simplified provisions (with tools)
Data Fabric enablement ( automation of cloud storage operations including rest up port.
What are the features of Cloud Manger?
Connect storage systems into one data fabric.
Use role based access control (RBAC) for admin of users and storage.
Simplified data migration and monitoring (using point and click).
Monitoring across multiple cloud accounts (all at once).
How to access?
Log into Cloud Central (cloud.NetAPP.com)
How to keep accounts and resources organised?
Through Cloud Manager
What is a connector?
A connection between NetAPP Cloud manager and your services.
It uses HTTPS:443 and can do bidirectional and unidirectional request/reply
It is a VM that has access to the customers storage cloud.
It is installed before services are deployed.
How do you deploy a connector?
Deployed as a VM in all cloud providers and on premises.
For google cloud the connector must reside within the google cloud.
Only a user with admin account privileges can create a connector.
Recommended method is to create a connector from the SaaS Cloud manager.
It can also be created in the cloud side, or downloaded and installed to an in existing Linux host.
Networking requirements are
Outbound internet access
Connection to target networks
Tasks to perform from local interface are (set proxy server, install patch, download AutoSupport messages).
Why would you use more than one connector?
A) you are using a multi cloud environment so have one connector in each cloud provider.
B) you need to set up cloud volumes in different regions and so each region needs a connector.
C)
When is a connector required?
Deploying cloud volumes ontap, and discovering ONTAP clusters (on-premises).
To use services like
Cloud Data Sense
Cloud Backup Service
Cloud Insights
Cloud Tiering
Global File Cache
Kubernetes
To find buckets in (Amazon S3) and for Amazon FSx services)
When do you NOT need a connector?
Not required for
Setting up Azure NetAPP Files
NetAPP Cloud volume service
NetAPP Cloud Sync service
Amazon FSx (when creating and discovering)
How much does Cloud Manager Cost?
It is free but the Connectors have a compute and storage cost at the Cloud provider.
How do you add storage environment to cloud manager?
Click the Add working environment for. Azure, AWS, Google and On-Premises.
What Cloud resource options do you have from Azure?
Cloud Volumes ONTAP (single node)
Cloud Volumes ONTAP HA (high Availability)
Azure NetAPP Files
What resource options do you have for AWS?
Cloud Volumes ONTAP (single node)
Cloud Volumes ONTAP HA (High Availablity)
Amazon FSx for ONTAP (High Availability)
Manage any Kubernetes Clusters
What resource options do you have for Google Cloud Platform?
Cloud Volumes ONTAP (single node)
Cloud Volumes ONTAP HA (High Availablity)
Cloud Volumes Service
What resource options do you have for On-Premises?
On-premises ONTAP
How can you manage the storage for Cloud Volumes ONTAP?
Add disks to aggregates
Create aggregates
Create Volumes (NAS and iSCSI)
Create snapshot copies
And more.
How can you manage the storage for Azure NetAPP files?
Create NetAPP accounts
Create capacity pools
Create volumes (NFS and SMB)
Create Snapshot copies
And more
How can you manage the storage for Amazon FSx for NetAPP ONTAP & Cloud Voulmes Service for Google Cloud?
Create Volumes (NFS and SMB)
Create Snapsot copies
And more (iSCSI in the future, only API for now)
How can you manage the storage for On-Premises ONTAP?
Create Volumes
Create Snapshot copies
And more
What features aid data mobility?
Replicate
Backup
Sync
What is replication in cloud manager
It’s is powered by SnapMirror and SnapVault.
Can replicate between one cloud based volume to another (regardless of which cloud provider it exists in).
Also replicate from a cloud volume to an on-premises ONTAP.
Also replicate from an on-premises ONTAP to another on-premises ONTAP cluster.
This can be configured using drag and drop plus a confirmation wizard.
What is the different between Simple replication, Fanout and cascade replication?
Simple replication is between two volumes (A -> B)
Fanout replication is between one volume and many others (A->B, A->C, A->D, A->E)
Cascade replication is between one volume to another, and then onto other from the second volume (A->B->C)
What is backup and Restore in cloud manager?
Powered by the cloud backup service.
Cloud manager supports backup from cloud and on premises to a S3 Bucket in AWS and Azure files.
One object store per Cloud Volumes ONTAP or on-premises ONTAP Basesd system.
Object storage in the same region as CLOUD Volumes ONTAP.
For on-premises you identify the region when Cloud. Backup service is enabled.
