What is the purpose of DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail)?
To validate the authenticity of email messages using a digital signature.
How does DKIM work?
Each email is signed with a private key and verified by the recipient using a public key stored in the sender’s DNS records.
What is a CNAME record?
A DNS record that maps an alias name to the true (canonical) domain name.
Why is a CNAME record useful?
It allows multiple domain names to point to the same IP address.
What is an MX (Mail Exchange) record?
A DNS record that specifies which mail server receives emails for a domain.
What is the function of an MX record?
It determines how email is routed through the internet.
What is an SOA (Start of Authority) record?
A DNS record that contains administrative information about a domain.
What information does an SOA record include?
Primary name server
What is DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication
Reporting & Conformance)?
What does DMARC do?
It tells receiving servers how to handle emails that fail DKIM or SPF checks.
What is DSL (Digital Subscriber Line)?
A technology for transmitting digital data over traditional telephone lines.
How does DSL compare to dial-up?
It provides faster internet access than dial-up connections.
What is an ONT (Optical Network Terminal)?
A device that converts optical signals to electrical signals and vice versa in fiber optic networks.
What is the role of an ONT in home networking?
It bridges the fiber optic connection to your home network.
What is a NIC (Network Interface Card)?
A hardware component that allows a computer to connect to a network.
What types of NICs exist?
They can be wired (Ethernet) or wireless (Wi-Fi).
What is a router?
A device that routes data between different networks based on IP addresses.
What does a router do in a home network?
It directs traffic from the home network to the internet.
What is an unmanaged switch?
A simple plug-and-play device that connects multiple network devices without configuration.
When would you use an unmanaged switch?
In simple networks where advanced features are not needed.
What is a managed switch?
A switch with advanced features like VLANs
When would you use a managed switch?
In complex networks that require traffic control and monitoring.
What is a wireless access point (AP)?
A device that allows wireless devices to connect to a wired network using Wi-Fi.
What is the function of an access point?
To extend Wi-Fi coverage and provide mobility within a network.
