What is penetration testing?

A

When a penetration tester identifies vulnerabilities in network security which could be exploited by a hacker, using methods that simulate a hacker or a malicious insider.

How can networks be protected?

A

Access control - authentication and user permissions

Physical security - Locked access doors, RFID tags in equipment, Swipe cards, CCTV

Firewalls - monitor internet traffic and stop unwanted traffic entering the network, or being accessed via the network.

3 Benefits of packet switching

A

If one router/device fails, data can be sent by another route

A path to the recipient device doesn’t have to be established so data can be sent immediately.

It is more secure as if intercepted, only part of the data will be gained.
