neu Flashcards

1
Q

motor alternator

A

runs off 1500v DC outputs 415vAC (air con, traction cooling fan, lightings circuits including headlights) also output 110 train lines functions
located on Motor cars the MA’s there are 2 cables connected to the opposite end of the three car and they do half of everything each so if you lose one you still have half lights fan and air con

Q

if the red EC turned in a non driving cab you won’t be able to charge the BP cos no one is there to set the foot and press the button

A

that’s why we have the yellow one, it allows us to charge the BP with one of those faults in a trailing motor

Q

removing the train from the section BP defect

A

always 15km/h
must always be driven from the longest continuous portion of BP
CE required to either apply SPB to an end car or communicate track and signals from the lead to a driver who is
propelling from another cab
detrain passengers at first available location
shunted to first available siding
if at any time communication is lost between CE and driver train must be stopped

25
if the BP rupture is in car 1,2,3 of a 6 car train
you will need a CE in the lead motor to look out for signals and obstructions and be prepared to operate the SPB if required isolate the end cocks of the defective release the air brake with the hand release valve select a suitable cab ensure all other BIVICS are closed turn the red EC trip out the EP drive on the air
26
BP rupture car 6
isolate the end cock drive on the air ??? 15km/h CE to operate SPB in case the train splits
27
BP rupture 4 or 5 if CE is available
isolate end cocks, release air brake with hand release valve trip out the EP drive on the air 15km/h max power and brake from the lead CE in trailing motor, charge BP and close BIVICS monitor BP pressure and operate can area cock if required
28
BP rupture 4 or 5 CE unavailable
isolate ends cocks release air brake with hand release valve isolate MR to 7 step relay on defective car open the BVICS on trailing motor and place controller to run and release return to lead open BVICS charge BP drive on the EP power and brake from lead max 15km/h
29
what gives you the extra 10%
restricted application limiting valve and ball check valve
30
what does the variable load valve do
adjusts breaking performance according to load
31
what does the restricted application magnet valve
prevents simultaneous EP and rheo on motor cars like the one that gives you the extra 10% but not quite cos it doesn’t have all those extra words
32
triple valve
charge (brake pipe to aux res) apply (aux res to brake cylinders) release (BC to atmosphere)
33
release ensuring valve and dump valve
for sticking brakes
34
what is affected on a motor car with no Main Res
trip whistle pantos down so no MA so half saloon lighting half air con air bags and saloon doors if it’s the lead max 15km/h EMY brake only need a CE otherwise disabled
35
why do we trip the EP in a main res rupture
to have maximum brake capacity
36
what do you do to a trailing motor that has a MR rupture
end cocks manually release SPB (don’t need to isolate as there’s no MR going to it) lower and isolate panto motors out trip out the compressor governor? yellow TECHAV move passengers and lock communication doors
37
what do you need to do in the LEAD cab of a MR rupture
isolate VICERS isolate door loop bypass trip EP open bvics set trip release SPB half track speed to a max of 30km with air bags out
38
if the trailer car has a MR rupture
turn the end cocks move the passengers and lock communication doors
39
if there a main res tank rupture
turn the main res delivery end cocks turn the comp contacter off isolate the compressor governor circuit breaker
40
automatic drain valve broken off
blank the pipe from the bogie to the min res or it will leak the BC if your using EP brake
41
if the flexible hose is broken between cars
close the end cocks
42
how might you know you have defective air suspension
complaints rough riding observed off levelling in a train prep
43
how many air suspension IC. per bogie
1
44
defective or low control res
turn the yellow techav the trip will lower and no power in that motor but the others will power because line breakers can’t close if you have a problem before control res in cock it’s a MR issue if it’s after control res out your trip is ok but you can close the line breaker contacters MOTORS OUT if the control res is ruptured turn control res in
45
to isolate the trip lever if control res air is leaking out
turn trip gear IC in van area (to save BP) whenever control res is isolated you need to turn the yellow because it can’t be held up
46
whistle
hit the lever turn the cock open close the same way
47
APA alternative proceed authority
CBTC communication based train control
48
route indicators DNG to EPH
plat 3 get the up (normal) 2 get the left (diverge) can’t get FROM 1 to EPH can get TO 1 from EPH
49
what. could be the cause of rapid BP reduction
trip VAV pilot valve dropped if the noise isn’t in the lead back tripping VAV in trailing if it has yellow techav
50
TECHAV
trip missing or failing to reset emergency application valve not resetting Control governor not closing hand and foot not able to reset anti- neutralisation device activating above 8km/h VICERS activation valve failing to reset after being isolated with the key
51
FEEC
foot pilot valve emergency pilot valve emergency control governor control governor bypass push button
52
rupture in BP to tripple valve
isolate BP to tripple valve isolalate MR to seven step manually release brake on bogies on that car run on the EP speed is 10 less until 60 for 80% bogies
53
possible reasons for deficient EP
interruption of electrical wiring ABCD wires defective brake unit on any car individually defective brake controller or relay unit whole train mechanical brake down of rigging could also be isolated bogies 1 if BC gauge shows 0 run on the air
54
skidding wheels indications
while powering and braking: steady wheel slip light flashing line switch and local this car in affected car can tell by retardation, smoke, maybe sound
55
skidding wheels 5km/ro clear a section
following trains 15/h under FTPC instruction until track is inspected
56
water over under the railhead not flowing
5km/hr -once authorised! under the rail head not flowing 15
57
the local fault light is shared with traction (line switch) and rheo (rheo)
sometimes it remains illuminated even after equipment is isolated, the driver can identify a new fault by continuous illumination of the line switch fault light while powering or rheo fault light while braking
58
what could cause traction faults
control res faults pneumatic leaks traction overloads tripping 1500v DC failure circuit breaker failure
59
control res fault
line breakers can’t close get a line switch fault light also trip won’t raise
60
1500vDC fault indication
also a line switch light, could mean there’s a panto not making contact with the over head, if the traction overload reset doesn’t fix it this indicates a more serious fault
61
traction overload reset button
will illuminate the line switch light, you can attempt to rectify by going to coast and off and pressing the button, if it doesn’t work you gotta put motors out, isolate rheo
62
if the traction overload reset button is causing the control circuit breaker to trip
you have to find which cab the fault is with this car light and isolate the motors there
63
how many motors do you need on a consistent to remain in service?
50% one set of motors out is 25%
64
isolating traction faults with motors out
go to off remove key and use it to place motors to all out press the traction overload reset button and try again for power/control gov/hand pilot functionality test. if the fault lights extinguish yay, if one remains (maybe local) book it
65
panto interlock auxiliary isolate switch
if this or the main switch is turned you should have a yellow sticker on the bulkhead wall from fleet maintainers (if your doing traction faults and it’s not local you can still try traction overload as it’s a train lined button)
66
what do you lose when you isolate a panto
half air con half saloon lights half head lights, local rheo out and half cab lighting and heating the other half is run by the 415 from the leading centre motor panto
67
how do younger which MA is out on the unit
look for the air con fault light above the bulk head door in the drivers compartment, which ever is illuminated is the one that’s out
68
illumination of MA fault light
1500v problem MAC air leak loss of MR van area IC turned panto down over speed - can only be identified by observing the over speed trip on the MA GEC westcode- underneath use switch stick, will stop running no sound Mitsubishi knorr- on the side, will keep running but no output
69
DC supply circuit breaker
a short circuit in the 110 DC supply cable will cause ALL CB to trip, try and reset the lead, if it can’t need RTA and try and reset at least 1 - if you can’t get one set your disabled will cause MAs to overspeed make sure you reset the CB before you reset the MAs
70
what else should you try for an MA fault light
press the aux start button
71
air con fault lights
flashing 2 in one car, steady one in one car to tell which one you have the saloon area lights on both ends of a trailer car motor car it’s in the drivers cab above the bulkhead wall
72
control circuit
master controller closed - nothing you can do CE or rescue master controller open- try the different notches, if it trips in shunt go motors out and see, if that doesn’t work PA TEC leading centre motor and try motors out there, if it doesn’t work divide the train and reattach non electrically DLbypass detrain first opportunity etc master reverser- if it’s F,N or R and brake handle is applied, isolate local rheo and see, if not reset the rheo and trip the EP, reset control CB if it stays set drive on the air, if not you gotta drive from another cab / get rescued remote panto raise- raise each manually remote panto lower- reset CB, isolate panto EP, press trainloned panto lower, if it will trips go look for the one that won’t trip it when lowered. electric brake demand circuit traction overload reset- find the car with this car fault light and isolate the motors (also supplies power to the speedo and control governor)
73
if the EP CB is tripped
the EP and rheo brake does not operate on the train
74
compressor gov sync circuit breaker
you could use if you isolated the main res in that car so it doesn’t interfere with the other comp governors or you could just de energise the comp gov CB? this will remove the function of train lined SPB in that car though
75
comp contractor switch vs compressor governor isolating cock
turns compressor off makes compressor run continuously because governor isnt governing
76
when you lose one MA
half saloon lighting (generally a 1 on 1 off pattern) half air con, motor car with the MA not working will have air con #1 not working half can lighting and cab heating local rheo brake where the MA has failed will be inoperative due to a cooling fan that is powered by the MA
77
will the MA and air con fault lights he extinguished by isolating equipment?
no
78
if you turn the SPB IC
the status lights will come off but the brake will remain applied until it is manually released
79
make sure the park brake is on and the tap is closed
to ensure that no main res air is being supplied to the SPB while you are trying to manually release it
