What is a TIA?
Transient Ischemic Attack
What is a transient ischemic attack?
An acute loss of cerebral or ocular function with symptoms lasting less than 24 hours.
What is a TIA caused by?
Inadequate blood supply as a result of low blood flow, ischeamia, or embolism associated with the disease of blood vessels, the heart or blood. It is a temporary interruption in blood flow to an area of the brain that doesn’t last long enough to cause permanent damage to the brain.
What is a CVA?
Cerebrovascular Accident
What is a CVA caused by?
Loss of blood flow to the brain, which damages brain tissue. Also caused by blood clots and broken blood vessels.
What is Parkinsons disease?
A disease caused by loss of nerve cells in the brain. A reduction of dopamine is responsible for many symptoms of Parkinsons disease.
If you are conveying a patient to hospital with Parkinsons what should you remember?
To take their medication. It is important that this is taken at the same time every day.
