Superior Salivary nucleus: Location and function?
BS. CN VII, Salivation in the submandibular and sublingual glands
Inferior salivary nucleus: Location and function?
BS. CN IX, salivation in the parotid gland
Nucleus of the solitary tract: Location? Function? CNs?
Brainstem, taste from X, IX and VII
Which CNs are sensory and motor?
V, VII, IX, X
What is the Edinger-Westphal nucleus?
Nucleus of CN3 involved with accommodation, miosis and convergence. It is GVE
What is the mesencephalic nucleus associated with? Which CN?
With proprioception of the face. CN V
Inferior petrosal ganglion
Taste to posterior 1/3 of tongue and baro/chemoreceptors
Nucleus Ambiguus
Motor nucleus for swallowing. Stylopharyngeous is innervated by CN IX and pharyngeal constrictors, palatopharyngeus, levator palatini, palatoglossus etc. from CN X
CN III lesions? CN VI lesion?
Dilated pupil and drooping eyelid. Eye perpetually directed toward nose.
Touch and Pressure Nucleus, tract and processing in the face vs body
Face: Trigeminal main sensory nucleus, Dorsal trigeminothalamic tract and VPM
Body: Gracile and cuneate nuclei (dorsal columns), medial lemniscus and VPL for processing
Pain and temperature Nucleus, tract and processing in the face vs body
Face: Spinal trigeminal nucleus, ventral trigeminothalamic tract, VPM periaqueductal grey matter and reticular formation
Body: DRG, Lissauer’s tract/spinothalamic tract, VPL PAGM and RF
Proprioception Nucleus, tract and processing in the face vs body
Face: Mesencephalic nucleus, spinocerebellar tract, cerebellum
Body: Clark’s nucleus, spinocerebellar tract, cerebellum
