Neuro Flashcards
(11 cards)
What supplies majority of thalamus/
Posteriolateral branch of posterior cerebral artery (supplies thalamus except for anterior tip)
Complex regional pain syndrome aka
reflex sympathetic dystrophy
3 types of complex regional pain syndrome
algodystrophy, dystrophy without pain, and pain without dystrophy
Meds to treat complex regional pain syndrome
Phenoxybenzamine hydrochloride- alpha blocker and clonidine- alpha 2 agnosist. NMDA antagnost, Neurotin (GABA analog). Nerve blocks- injected into dorsal root ganglion.
how does clonidine work?
alpha 2 agnost- blocks NE release from neurons
NMDA antagonist in tx of complex regional pain syndrome
blocks receptors for glutamate, so most neurons in spinal cord won’t be activated. (when glutamate binds to its receptors, activates neurons)
Monro-Kellie Hypothesis
Intracranial volume= volume of CNS + volume of blood + volume of CSF + volume of lesion
What CN comes off posterior brainstem?
IV. All others come off anterior brainstem
What pathologies is hyperosmia linked to?
Migraines, temporal lobe seizures, or hallucinations
Lesion in CN III would present with
Dilation of pupil, eye moves down and out, droopy eyelid, diplopia
ICP value
Less than 200 mmH20 or less than 15 mmHg
