Neuroanatomy Flashcards
(12 cards)
Frontal lobe function
“Higher function”: planning, consequences of action
Where is the precentral gyrus located? function?
Frontal lobe
Signaling voluntary msk movements= primary motor cortex
where is the post central gyrus located? function?
Parietal lobe
Primary somatosensory: perception of touch
Parietal lobe function
Body sensation
spatial perception
Temporal lobe function
- Hearing- receives input from cochlear nerve.
2. Memory
Occipital lobe function
Vision
Define basal ganglia
Groups of nuclei that surround the thalamus
Basal ganglia function
Motor control: regulate body movements by processing sensory and motor information coming from the cerebral cortex
Thalamus function
Relay station between the cerebrum and the rest of the nervous system
Processes nearly all motor sensory input before it reaches the cortex
Define corpus callosum
Connects the gray matter regions of two hemispheres of the cerebrum =allows communication between the two sides of the brain and enabling integrated function
What makes up the limbic system? Function?
Hippocampus + Amygdala
=Memory, emotion, fear
What makes up the basal ganglia?
- Caudate Nucleus
- Globus Pallidus
- Putamen
