Neuroanatomy: Cerebrum Flashcards
(45 cards)
C-shaped CSF-filled cavities within each cerebral
hemisphere.
Lateral Ventricles
Communication between hemispheres.
Commissural fibres
Communication between parts in one hemisphere.
Association fibres
Communication between the cerebral cortex with
more caudal structures in the central nervous
system, like the thalamus, brainstem, and spinal
cord.
Projection fibres
A deep median cleft separating the right and left
cerebral hemispheres.
Longitudinal fissure
Name the 4 borders of the cerebrum.
Superomedial border
Inferolateral border
Inferomedial border
Name the 3 surfaces of the cerebrum.
- Superomedial surface
- Medial surface
- Inferior surface
Name the 3 poles.
- Frontal pole
- Occipital pole
- Temporal pole
No parietal pole!
Name the 4 lobes of the cerebrum.
- Frontal lobe
- Parietal lobe
- Occipital lobe
- Temporal lobe
Sulcus separating the frontal and parietal lobes.
Central sulcus
Sulcus separating the temporal and parietal lobes.
Lateral sulcus
(only visible on the superolateral surface of the cerebrum)
Sulcus on medial surface between parietal and
occipital lobes.
Parieto-occipital sulcus
Area of cerebral cortex anterior to the central
sulcus.
Frontal lobe
Area of cerebral cortex posterior to the central
sulcus to parieto-occipital sulcus.
Parietal lobe
Area below the lateral sulcus.
Temporal lobe
Superior & inferior temporal sulci divide the
temporal lobe into ________ gyri.
Superior, middle & inferior
temporal
The occipital lobe is divided into superior and
inferior occipital gyri by the _______ sulcus.
Lateral occipital
Groove located in the occipital cortex.
Lunate sulcus
Sulcus continuous with the posterior end of the
occipital ramus of the intraparietal sulcus, and runs across the upper part of the occipital lobe, a short distance behind the parietooccipital sulcus.
Transverse occipital sulcus
A small region of the cerebral cortex located deep
within the lateral sulcus, covered by the portions of
the frontal, parietal, and temporal lobes. It forms
part of the limbic system.
Insula
Sulcus from the front of genu, running backwards
parallel to upper margin of cerebral cortex.
Cingulate sulcus
Sulcus below splenium, running towards the
occipital pole.
Calcarine sulcus
Sulci below the genu.
Small anterior & posterior
paraolfactory sulci
Sulcus separating the cingulate gyrus from the
cerebral cortex.
Callosal sulcus
