- atrophy (decay) of cerebral cortex
- atrophy of hippocampus
- enlarged ventricles
symptoms:
- memory loss
- executive function loss (reasoning, problem solving etc.)
- emotional changes

causes and treatment of alzheimer’s

A

causes:
- amyloid beta (protein clumps in brain -> blocks neurons and kills them)
- tau and neurofibrillary tangles (tangles in neurons)
- acetylcholine reduction
treatment:
- symptomatic drugs (increases acetylcholine)
- preventative therapies
