1 - unilateral involvement
1.5 - unilateral and axial involvement
2 - bilateral involvement, balance not affected
2.5 - bilateral involvement, able to recover during pull test
3 - mild to mod severity, postural instability, physically independent
4 - max severity,
5 - wheelchair bound
Briefly describe what Parkinson’s Disease is
Slow progressive disease seen mainly in older men.
- Dopamin depletion
What are neurotransmitter involved with basal ganglia function
Ach, Dopamine, GABA, Glutmate
Function of basal ganglia
Initiation and excuetion of movement.
-Can also inhibit unwanted movements
What are the cardinal symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease?
-Tremor (usually resting)
-Bradykinesia
-Rigidity
-Weakness
-Difficulty with motor breakdown
-Postural Instability
What are general early symptoms seen associated with Parkinson’s Disease
Hypokinetic gait, En bloc turning, festinating gait, freezing gait, retroplusion/anteroplusion
