Why do we have the tripartite synapse? + ribbon synapse

A

Ribbon synapse allows lots of vesicles to line up and release NT quickly like a machine gun.

The glial cell in this tripartite is to recycle glutamate (neurotoxic if its around for too long )When glutamate is picked up by glial cells, conversion to glutamine then shuttled back to presynaptic side before turning back and recycling back to a glutamate.
Glial cell is crucial for the recycling of glutamate between these synaptic clefts.
Glial cells are the last born cells
