Q

Neutralisation practical method

A

measure 25cm3 alkali into pipette, add to a conical flask, 5 drops phenolphthalein (turns pink in alkali), swirl to mix, add acid until the burette reads 0, place conical flask under the burette on a white tile - to observe colour change, record start volume from burette, add acid drop by drop whilst swirling flask, stop when it turns from pink to colourless, record end volume from burette, calculate total volume of acid, repeat titration until you get 3 concordant volumes, calculate average volume
