Body text/copy
The main section of writing on a newspaper, where the story can be found
Byline
Small piece of text that tells who wrote the piece and what their job is e.g editor, journalist, etc
Caption
A piece of information that describes the photograph
Gutter
White ‘gaps’ between sections of the newspaper, either the copy, photographs, etc.
Headline
The main title of the piece, often written in the largest font.
Lead story
The main story of the newspaper, often on the front cover to lure readers in.
Main image
The central image on the newspaper, often paired with the lead story.
Masthead
The title of the newspaper, right st the top. E.g ‘The Times’and any dates/legal info
Pull quote
A quotation pulled from the copy/body text from one of the people directly, often on the front page to encourage readers to flick through the paper to read the rest of the article.
Skyline
Often underneath or beside the masthead, shows other stories on the newspapers or any advertisemenrs
Stand first
A sentence often in bold that summaries a larger piece of text, shows the reader what the story is about.
