Newton's 3rd law of motion/law of interaction Flashcards
(10 cards)
What does Newton’s third law of motion/law of interaction state?
For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction
what are the 2 parts/pair of the force that is occuring?
the action and the reaction
A swimmer pushes the water with his/her arms
what is the reaction force?
The water pushes the swimmer back
True or false:
action:
A magnet pushes a piece of metal to its direction
Reaction:
the metal pulls the magnet back
false.
it should be “the metal PUSHES the magnet back”
action:
A person sits on a chair exerting a force on it
what is the reaciton force?
the chair exerts a force back on the person’s body
True or false:
The Space Shuttle engines push out hot gases (action force)
the hot gases put a force on the shuttle engines so the shuttle lifts. (reaction force)
true
True or false:
Due to the action and reaction force going against each other, they cancel out due to the same force and it stops
false
keep note that it because:
- Each object is exerting one force on the other object.
- Each object is experiencing only one force.
true of false:
action-reactions pairs always act on the same object
false
true or false:
action reaction forces have the same line of action
true
true or false:
action-reaction forces is equal in magnitude
true
