Newtons Laws Flashcards
(14 cards)
State Newton’s 1st law
If a body is at rest, or moving with a constant velocity, it will remain at rest, or moving with constant velocity, unless a resultant force acts on it.
This law describes the concept of inertia.
What does it mean if something is at rest or moving with a constant velocity?
Then the forces are balanced.
This indicates that there is no net force acting on the object.
State Newton’s 2nd Law
The acceleration of an object is inversely proportional to its mass, directly proportional to the resultant force on it and takes place in the direction of the resultant force.
This law can be summarized with the formula F = ma.
How is Newton’s 2nd Law useful in calculations?
It allows the calculation of acceleration, force, and mass in physics problems.
The relationship is expressed as F = ma.
Fill in the blank: The formula for Newton’s 2nd Law is _______.
F = ma
