Q

During an APU FIRE, why does the APU System wait 8 seconds to discharge the fire bottle?

A

The APU shuts down automatically, and immediately. If it was a bleed leak, and not a true fire, the 8 seconds will allow the temperature to lower and prevent the unnecessary discharge of the fire bottle.
