Q

What are the different forms of Niacin? What two enzymes do they serve?

A

The two different forms or niacin are nicotinic acid and nicotinamide. Nicotinamide serves as a component to coenzymes NAD and NADP.

Q

What is the main roles of niacin?

A

Like coenzymes for riboflavin, the coenzymes for niacin (NAD/NADP) are involved in the electron transport chain. Therefore, niacin functions in the metabolism of CHO, PRO and FATS. In addition, it functions in the repair of DNA, in Ca mobilization, in activation of folate, and in the reduction of some antioxidants
