National Investment and Infrastructure Fund is a trust that raises debt to invest in equity of infrastructure companies

A
In 2015 as an investment vehicle for funding commercially viable Greenfield , Brownfield and stalled projects in infrastructure sector

It acts like a Bankers Bank in Infrastructure financing . Govt owns 49% of NIIF

How is NIIF benificial ?
A
1) Provides equity support to NBFC’s and FI’s engaged in infrastructure financing
2) A typical sovereign wealth fund will be a state owned investment comapny owned by Govts and invests their own money in foreign countries
3) Though NIIF acts like an SWF , it doesnt invest in assets like stocks , bonds , real estate , commodities etc
