Q

What is Impedance?

A
  • Impedance (Z) is the resistance of a circuit to a current (audio signal).
  • This resistance is measured in Ohms (Ω).
  • Impedance is the total opposition (including resistance) that a circuit has to a passing current.
  • All circuits are going to have some degree of resistance, but the main device that will impede the progress of our signal/current will be the speaker.

Q

What is A/C?

A

Alternating Current

  • an alternating current, or AC, is an electric current that periodically reverses its direction, as opposed to a direct current, or DC, which maintains a single direction.
  • the rate of alternation is called the frequency and is measured in cycles per second, or hertz (Hz)
  • example: normal household current alternates at 60 Hz
  • audio signals are, of course, ALWAYS ALTERNATING, the frequency corresponding to the frequencies of the sounds the signal represents
