NMR/IR (Exam 2) Flashcards
1
Q
What does proton NMR look like?
A
Upward peaks
2
Q
What does C13 NMR look like?
A
Upward lines
3
Q
What does APT NMR look like?
A
Upward and downward lines
4
Q
Important peaks to know in Proton NMR:
A
~2-2.5 —> benzylic H’s
~6.5-8 —> aromatic H’s
5
Q
Important peaks in C13 NMR:
A
- less than 100 = sp3 carbons
- greater than 100 = sp2 and sp carbons
- ~100 = sp carbons
(Carbons with H’s are probably going to be taller peaks)
6
Q
Important peaks in APT NMR:
A
- pointed up = C’s with no H’s or 2 H’s
- pointed down = C’s with 1 H or 3 H’s
7
Q
Quartet
A
Grouping of four peaks
8
Q
Triplet
A
Grouping of three peaks
9
Q
Multiplet
A
a large grouping of peaks
10
Q
Benzylic
A
Groups directly attached to a benzene ring
