When to ask about fetal movements
After 20 weeks

- Cutaneous signs of pregnancy

- linea nigra (from xiphoid to suprapubic area)
- striae gravidarum (recent stretch marks purple in color)
- striae albicans (old stretch marks silvery white in color)
When to measure symphisis fundal height?
After 20w
Palpate only before 20 weeks
Value of symphysis fundal height
Detects approximately 40-60% of small for gestational age
(Not so much valuable in detecting large for gestational age)
How to measure symphysis fundal height
By measure tape from highest point of fundus to upper margi. Of symphysis pubis
Appropriate growth of SFH
Add
2 cm from 20w to 36w
3 cm from 36w to 40w
4 cm more than 40w
Palpation of pregnant abdomen

- fetal lie
- presentation
- amniotic fluid volume
Amniotic fluid volume increased or decreased by palpation
Inc. > tense abdomen with fetal parts not easily palpated
Dec. > compact abdomen with fetal parts easily palpated
When we can use doppler u/s (sonicade) to hear fetal heart
After 12 weeks
When we can use fetal stethoscope (Pinard) to heart fetal heart
