What was the Norman Conquest?
How William Duke of Normandy conquered England in 1066
What was the Domesday book?
2 volumes of a survey William ordered to be made of how much land each tenant held and what taxes he could expect.
What did William want to know? (Domesday book)
What the land was worth, who had owned it before and how much of it was ploughland

What was the feudal system?
A diagram of who gave land to who; starting with the King who gave it to the barons & bishops to the knights to the peasants.
How were the barons given land?
They had to provide knights to the King when he needed them
What was the ceremony of homage?
The baron/bishop had to kneel, place his hands between the King’s hands and say “I promise to become your man……”
What were the Early castles made of?
They were built of wood which is quicker to use than stone
Where were the castles sited?
If possible, they were placed on a hill or cliff so they were hard to attack
