What happened during the revolt ?
Initially Plotters wanted to get Mary QOS to marry the duke of Norfolk . They believed that Elizabeth might then name Mary her hair as if they had a child it would be a future protestant.
Plot changed to overthrow Elizabeth and place Mary in charge. Elizabeth was tipped off and arrest Duke of Norfolk . Mary was in captivity already, was moved further south so plotters could not free her.
- key event = take Durham cathedral and mass took place and rebels marched towards south of England
The earl of N and W pushed ahead with the plot to overthrow Elizabeth and managed to take over large parts of the north. Elizabeth eventually crushed rebellion as she had more troops and Spanish never came to help the rebels.
Earl of W escaped, Earl of N executed. Elizabeth did not execute Mary as she still believed she was an anointed monarch and was concerned of France and spains reactions.
