What is demography?
The study of human population
What is population distribution?
Where people live
What is population density?
How many people live within a given area, varies from place to place. Total population ➗ Area(km2) = population density
What is sparse, moderate, and dense?
Sparse: Large area with small population (Canada, Australia)
Moderate: Medium sized area with medium population (France, Spain)
Dense: Small area with large population (Taiwan, Japan)
What is carrying capacity?
How many people the environment sustains
What are the six factors affecting population distribution?
Physical features, agriculture, fresh water, climate, available power, access to other communities
What is a megacity?
A city with at least 10 million people (New York City, Mexico City, London)
What is a population pyramid?
Shows the % of males and females in each age group for a country
Rolo bar: BRDR, Increasing pop. growth
(Something in between): BR=DR, Zero pop. growth
Where/Why do people live where they live in Canada?
We live in southern Canada, near capital cities, near water (Great Lakes), near the U.S.A. border. We live there because it has economic development, fertile soil and it’s near water resources
