Non-Stress Test
-A Non-Stress Test is used to evaluate fetal heart accelerations that normally occur in response to fetal activity.
-Generally done on Obstetrical unit; performed by obstetrical nurse.
-Accelerations are indicative of an intact autonomic nervous system in the unborn child.
Endoscopies
-Visual examination of a body cavity or hollow organ by the use of an endoscope.
-May be done through a body opening or through a small incision.
-An endoscope is a flexible instrument which consists of many small glass fibers that transmit light and also permit the physician to see clearly through it.
-Prep is required for each endoscopies (varies).
Arthroscopy
-Examination of joints ex. knee and shoulder etc.
-Used to detect cysts, arthritis, or ligament injuries.
Bronchoscopy
-Examination of larynx, trachea and bronchi.
Used to detect tumors, inflammation or strictures.
Colonoscopy
-Examination of large intestine.
-Used to detect tumors, polyps, and ulcers.
Esophagoscopy
-Examination of esophagus.
-Used to detect motor function of esophagus.
Cystoscopy and Pyelogram C&P
-Examination of urethra and bladder and prostate (males).
-If pyelogram is done at the same time, a contrast medium is introduced through the urethra allowing X-ray pictures to be taken of urethra, bladder and ureters.
-Used to detect bladder capacity, the dilation of narrowed urethra and ureters, renal stones or tumors.
Laparoscopy
-Examination of abdominal and pelvic organs.
-Used to detect tumors, cysts, adhesions, fibroids, infections of endometriosis.
Gastroscopy
-Examination of esophagus, stomach, duodenum.
-Used to detect tumors, ulcers, polyps, haitus hernias or to locate site of bleeding.
Sigmoidoscopy
-Examination of lower part of colon or large intestine (sigmoid colon).
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography ERCP
-A procedure that combines upper GI endoscopy and x-rays to treat problems of bile and pancreatic ducts.
