nearer the midline of the body
lateral
furthest from the midline
proximal
nearer the attachment of the limb to the trunk
distal
furthest from the attachment of the limb to the trunk
superficial
located on or near the surface of the body or an organ
deep
located further away from the surface of the body or an organ
central
towards the bodys core
peripheral
towards the body peripheries or extremities
Definition of homeostasis
A condition of equilibrium in the bodys internal environment
A cell membrane…
- covers the cell’s cytoplasm, controls what moves in and out of the cell, connects to other cells and allows body cells to ‘recongize’ each other
explain passive transport
substances move across the cell membrane due to kinetic energy, no ATP is required, they down their concentration gradient via simple diffusion, osmosis, facilitated diffusion and filtration.
Explain active transport
substances move across the cell membrane using ATP, they move against their concentration gradient via active transport and transport in vesicles.
What do Ion channels allow
allow ions to move into or out of the cell
function of a carrier
selectively move substances through the membrane
