Given by IV through large vein when enteral nutrition not possible and avoid malnutrition

25
Why would enteral nutrition not be possible?
GI system not functioning properly such as disease, obstruction
26
27
Why types if parenteral nutrition is there?
Partial and total
28
29
Can parenteral nutrition meet daily requirements? how or why
Yes, Carbs, proteins, fats, minerals, electrolytes, and vitamins can be given
30
Can parenteral nutrition be given through peripheral vein?
No. The fluid is hyperosmotic and is too caustic. It needs a vein with a large flow
31
Why do we need to check blood sugars in patients that relieve parenteral nutrition, and how often do we check?
It contains a lot of glucose and needs to be checked on all patients regardless of whether they have diabetes or not. You check every 6 hours
32
Other than blood sugar checks, What possible expectations regarding blood sugar do we anticipate
May have to give insulin
33
What are the 3 ✔️ for parenteral nutrition
Correct rate, central line administration, check ✔️ BS
34
What do we make sure tubing for parenteral nutrition has and how often is it changed?
Tubing has a filter. It is changed every time the bag is changed, which is no less than every 24 hours
35
What conditions are associated with metabolic syndrome
Three or more of the following: increased waist circumference, HTN, elevated triglycerides, elevated FBS, low HDL
