Obj. 1: Define ANS & Relationship to Somatic System Flashcards

1
Q

ANS consists of motor neurons that do what 3 things?

A
  • Innervate smooth muscle, cardiac muscle and glands
  • Make adjustments to ensure optimal support for body acitivites
  • Oberate via subconscious control (involuntary nervous system or general visceral motor system)

Q

What is an example of when motor neurons make adjustments

to ensure optimal support for body activities?

A

When neurons shunt blood to muscles during danger;

or shunt blood to dialated capillaries in the skin to decrease core body temperature

Q

What are 3 relationships between ANS & Somatic Nervous System?

A
  • Higher brain centers regulate and coordinate both systems
  • Most spinal nerves and many cranial nerves contain fibers from both systems
  • Most of the body’s adaptations to changing conditions involve both skeletal muscle activity and enhanced responses of certain visceral organs

Q

What is this an example of?

If skeletal muscles are increasing their workload, they will need more exygen for aerobic respiration (ATP). The ANS responds with increased rate and depth of respiratoins and increased heart rate to movemore oxygenatiec blood to the working muscles.

A

The relaitonship between ANS & Somatic nervous system
