3 of them
Issues in observational design
A
- Ways of recording data
- Behavioral categories
- Sampling methods
2
Q
Ways of recording data: unstructured ob
A
- writing down everything you see
- accounts of behavior that are rich in detail
- appropriate for when small in scale + few ps
- e.g. observing therapist + client
3
Q
ways of recording data: Structured observation
A
- too much going on in unstructured
- Behavioral catergories = simplified target behaviors - makes it easier to observe (main focus)
4
Q
Behavioral categories
A
Target behavior broken up into components that are observable + measurable (Operationalisation)
* checklist
* should be precisely defined
* able to measure + observe
* ‘affection’ = hugging + smiling
