how much does the HR increase during pregnancy?
15 - 20 BPM
pregnancy can cause arrhythmias due to increased CO and HR. what are the arrhythmias?
ectopic beats or SVT
what does the hormone relaxin do?
it leads to the relaxation of ligaments usually around the pelvic area to facilitate child birth
describe the first stage of labour?
- onset of contractions begin and there is an increase in frequency, strength of contraction, and duration
- amniotic sac ruptures ie. water breaks
- effacement of the cervix
what are the intervals of contraction in the first stage of labour?
5 - 15 mins apart
when does the first stage of labour end?
when the cervix is fully dialated

what marks the end of second stage labour?
the baby is fully delivered

why is room air ppv used initially during NERP

when would you assign CTAS 1 for an obstetric pt?
pregnancy >= 20 weeks w/ presenting fetal parts, prolapsed cord, and vaginal bleeding
when would you assign CTAS 2 for an obstetric pt?
pregnancy >=20 weeks in active labour <2 mins apart, Abdo pain, Preeclampsia symptoms
or
heavy vaginal bleeding +/- pregnancy
when would you assign CTAS 3 to a pregnant pt?
> = 20 weeks ; active labour >2 mins apart and leaking amniotic fluid
