Occlusion - Chu Flashcards
(35 cards)
What is intra-arch tooth alignment?
the relationship of the teeth to each other within the arch
When following the buccal cusp tip line of the mandibular arch, what kind of curve does it make?
Concave
T or F: both the anterior and posterior of the mandibular arch are mesially inclined?
True
T or F: both the anterior and posterior of the maxillary arch are mesially inclined?
False, The anterior is mexially inclined, but the posterior is distally inclined
Is the mandibular arch B or L inclined?
B
Is the maxillary arch B or L inclined?
L
What is inter-arch tooth alignment?
The relationship of the teeth in one arch compared to the other arch
Why is the mandibular arch smaller than the maxillary arch?
Because the incisors are smaller
What are centric/functional cusps?
They are what is mainly contacted. It maintains the distance between mandibular and maxillary.
Usually broader, and wider, more blunt
What are guiding cusps?
nonfunctional cusps
usually sharper
What are protrusive movements?
moving the mandible foward
What are laterotrusive movements?
moving the mandible from left to right
What are retrusive movements?
moving the mandible posteriorly
Is the mandible the only thing that moves?
YES!!!
What is a class I molar?
normal
the MB cusp of the first maxillary molar is aligned over the B groove of the first mandibular molar
What is a class II molar?
mandible is more distal “overbite”
MB cusp of the first mandibular molar is aligned under the B groove of the first mandibular molar
What is a class III molar?
mandible is more mesial “underbite”
MB cusp of the first maxillary molar is aligned over the embrasure of the first and second mandibular molar
What is a class I anterior?
Normal occlusion
What is class II division I anterior?
Mandible contacts gingival third of maxillary incisors
What is class II division II anterior?
Deep bite; mandible is more posterior
What is class III anterior “end to end” ?
Mandible is slightly more anterior; mandibular incisors are all touching the incisal edges of the maxillary incisors
What is class III anterior “underbite”?
Mandible is extremely anterior
What is anterior open bite?
None of the anterior teeth are contacting leaving a large gap
What molar class is the most common?
Class I malocclusion
