outline the behavioural characteristics of OCD
A
- repeated compulsions
– some get these compulsions without it being triggered by the anxiety of having an obsession 10% - avoidance
– may avoid situations that trigger the behaviours can interfere with daily life and affect ability to function adequately.
these behaviours reduce the anxiety associated with an obsession.

outline the emotional characteristics of OCD
A
- guilt and disgust, guilt at irrational and minor moral issues, disgust at internal (self) or external (eg dirt)
- often comorbid with depression so low moods and lack of enjoyment in activities
-anxiety which informs the urge to complete compulsions

outline the cognitive characteristics of OCD
A
acknowledgement that their obsession is irrational but an inablity to reduce the constantsty of the thoughts
obsessions- they have fixations that compulsions relieve such as fear of germs
cognitive coping strategies- mental prayer can hinder daily life and appear abnormal to others
-catastrophic thinking
-hypervigilence
