Is a work of drama in which a character who’s usually good and noble is brought to a disastrous end his or her Confrontation with a superior force (Fordshire, the guides, human nature, universal values) But also comes to understand the meaning of his or her deeds and to accept the punishment as appropriate. Often the Protagonist downfall is a Direct result of a flat flaw in the character. In Oedipus is situation, his fatal flaw or Hammerich is to learn the truth
Tragedy
Uses choir, a non-realistic set of speeches, the static stage action, the translated poetry, the reporting of offstage action by messengers.
Classic tragedy
of the play during during the period in which Oedipus was written, the Greeks were especially interested in the relationship between greatness and hubris, the excessive pride and ambitions that leads to the downfall of the hero in classic tragedy.
