Escapism
The tendency to seek distraction and relief from unpleasant realieties, especially by seeking entertainment or engaging in fantasy.
Audiovisual contract
The symbolic, informal pact between the viewer and the film in which the former agrees to accept that the sound and images coming from the screen are part of the real world
Cinema
Greek ‘kinema’ - motion
Flash cut
An extremely brief cut; provides a subliminal effect on the viewer
Split screen
Division of the screen (traditionally in half but albo in several images)
Stock footage
A film footage that comes from older sources; often the public domain
Soundtrack Vs. Score
Soundtrack feature music with lyrics
Scores are instrumental music used in film (original or existing)
Ennio morricone
Composed scores to more than 400 films. 1928-2020
Fourth wall
The “Fourth wall” separates the characters in the film from the viewer; the characters are unaware of being watched
Title card
Printed text within a film
Opening crawl
A unique type od title card that moves vertically to inform the reader. Like in star wars films
Credits
Can be either at the beginning or at the end of the film. some crazy credits cam contain inside jokes
Boom operator
Responsible for the placement of microphones on boom poles on the film’s set
Sound editing
Mastering and mixing a film’s sound for the final cut
Foley artist
Creates the sound effect for the film; named after jack foley
Mise-en-scene
The composition of an individual frame: the relation of objects, people and masses; the interplay of light and dark; the pattern of colour; the camera’s position and angle; movement within the frame
Set
An artificially constructed location where the film’s plot takes place. Short for setting. Normally made of lightweight and portable materials.

Film gauge
The width of the film; most common are 8mm, 16mm, 35mm and 65/70mm. The greater the width, the higher the film quality
Super 8mm film
Replaces standard 8mm film. Has a 50% larger image area, making it higher definition and higher colour quality. Once typical for photography and home videos. used for vintage and retro style (grainy foggy looks)
Storyboard
Series of sketches made before a film’s shooting to help the filmmaker visualize what a film will look like. Arranged in the sequence in which they will take place in the film
Method acting
An actor immerse himself in a role by acting like his character all the time, including off set
Cameo
An episodic but memorable role in a film, usually limited to one scene, typically by someone familiar to the audience (not necessarily a professional actor)
Donald trump cameo in home alone 2
