What is the minimum inch tread depth for a tire?
1/16-inch tread depth
How many seat belts do you need in your car the least?
At least 2 seat belts in the front seat
When are studded tires (snow tires) legal in Ohio?
From Nov. 1st through April 15th
When should the headlights be on?
Sunset to Sunrise- whenever visibility is poor such as fog, snow storm, rain, etc.
When should you activate turn signals?
At least 100 feet prior to changing direction
Why are hazard lights used?
They are used to increase visibility of a vehicle stopped on or near a roadway
What should you do before driving?
Adjust your mirrors, put on your seatbelt, adjust the seat to have clear view
When should you NOT keep to the right when driving?
when passing a vehicle, when the road has 3 or more marked lanes, road with signs for one-way traffic, when directed by a police officer
How do you change lanes?
first determine that it’s safe to change by checking the mirrors then use a turn signal
What should you do when an emergency vehicle approaches?
drive to the right edge or curb of the road and stop then move when the vehicle passes; make sure you don’t block an intersection
Right Turns
Stay as close as possible to the right edge of the road
Right Turn on Red
do it when there’s no sign posted forbidding right turns on red and look to be sure the intersection is clear
Left Turns
stay as far left as lane markings allow
Left Turn on Red
you can only turn left on red when driving on a one-way street and turning onto another one-way street
What does NO TURNS ON RED means?
this means no right or left turn on red- sometimes there will be a sign saying this
Are signals optional?
No, by law all vehicles must have working signals
What should you do if your signals aren’t working?
Do hand signals when switching lanes, stopping, etc.
When is it appropriate to stop?
stop behind the stop line or crosswalk at any “Stop” sign or at a red light
What should I do if I can turn left or right on red?
stop behind the stop line or crosswalk at any “Stop” sign or at a red light- do not turn until the crossroad and road are clear
What should I do before entering an intersection?
Stop IF there’s not enough space to get out of the intersection- even if the light is green
When should I stop when I see a school bus?
Stop at least 10ft in front of the bus or behind it when the bus stops and DO NOT go until the bus moves or the drives waives you on
What should I do if the bus stops on a street or road with four or more lanes?
Only the traffic going the same direction as the bus must stop
What is yielding?
let other road users go first- no just cars, pedestrians and bicycles too
When should I yield?
- when directed by a yield sign
- when crossing/entering a highway from a smaller traveled road
- all vehicles which are part of a funeral
- when approaching a public safety vehicle
- to a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk- or unmarked at an intersection
- a vehicle approaching from the right of an intersection of two similar roads without traffic control device
