The Sinai Desert
Another name for the ancient country of Mesopotamia, where Abram’s ancestors wandered in the land between the two rivers.

The town where Abraham’s ancestors finally settled.
Ur
Capital city of the Holy Land; city famous for the temple built by Solomon. It is located in the southern part of the Holy Land, near Jericho and Bethlehem.
Jerusalem
Two names for the Holy Land during and after the Exodus.
The Promised Land or the Land of Canaan
Nation located to the southwest of the Holy Land; land where Joseph ended up after his brothers sold him, it later became a land of slavery for the Jews.
Egypt
Town where Abraham and his family stopped off on their way to the Holy Land.
Haran
River where Moses was found as a baby, located in Egypt.
Nile River
Sea associated with Jewish history, but not actually located in the Holy Land. It is located in the country to the southwest of Israel. The Jews crossed this body of water at the beginning of the Exodus as they fled the Egyptians.
The Red Sea
Name for the Holy Land during the time of Abraham.
Canaan
Town where Abram settled when he first arrived in the Holy Land.
Shechem
The Jews received the Ten Commandments at this spot.
Mount Sinai
Name for the Holy Land after the time of Jacob.
Israel
Name for the Holy Land today.
Israel or Palestine
Water which connects the two seas in the Holy Land and marks its eastern boundary. The Jews had to cross this water AFTER their 40 years in the desert, to reenter the Holy Land.
Jordan River
Body of water which marks the western border of the Holy Land.
Mediterranean Sea
Body of water located in the northern part of the Holy Land.
Sea of Gallilee
Body of water located in the southern part of the Holy Land; it became famous with the discovery of ancient scrolls nearby.
