Q

Was Cromwell overall a good Lord Protector?

A

No. Cromwell made many mistakes such as enter the House of Commons which was forbidden. He also repeated a lot of Charles’ mistakes such as dismiss Parliament in 1655. He also held many experiments on his people which added to his bad reputation. His leaders were Puritan so they changed England according to their religious beliefs i.e. They banned horse-racing.

Q

Why was Christmas banned?

A

Christmas was banned because people began to forget the true meaning of Christmas, Christ’s birth. Merry-making was sinful, according to the Puritan Parliament. Many Christmas activities were banned such as drinking. It was seen as disrespectful to celebrate and drink on such a holy day.
