Carcinoma
Cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues eg breast, prostate
Leukaemia
Cancer that begins in blood forming tissue (bone marrow) that enters the blood stream
Sarcoma
Begins in the bone cartilage or other connective or supportive tissue
Lymphoma
Cancer that begins in cells of the immune system eg Hodgkins
Central Nervous System Cancers
Begins in tissues of brain or spinal cord
Testing/Diagnosed by:
X-Ray, CT, MRI, blood tests, examinations, sample testing
Chemotherapy
Medication killing cancer cells, can cause weakened immunity
Surgery
Goal is to remove the cancer
Radiation therapy
High dose of radiation to kill cancer cells
Immunotherapy
Medication that helps immune system fight cancer
Common Knowledge
PICC line, low immunity, fatigue, sepsis risk
Spinal Cord Compression
Cancer grows in the bones of the spine or in tissues around the spinal cord causing compression. Treatment-steroids to reduce swelling, painkillers, lying flat, surgery
Neutropenic Sepsis
Low levels of neutrophils and an infection at the same time. High risk if temp is 37.5+ or 36- and any anti-cancer treatment in last 4 weeks. SEPSIS 6.
