the past - nature quote + analysis
“In easy chair before electric heater… At the camp fire in the bush”
Noonuccal juxtaposes the western electric heater to the camp fire in the bush from her Aboriginal culture. The simplistic and grammatically incorrect language when she is referring to the electric heater represents her strained relationship with Western Culture compared to her grammatically correct sense explaining about the camp fire highlighting her inextricable connection with her culture. This juxtaposition creates an emotive response from the reader as it forces the reader to understand the differences between traditional indigenous culture and the lasting effects of colonisation.
