A

+ standardised answers, analysis is straight forwards
- force pts to choose an answer that may not accurately reflect their opinion, lack validity
+ same for all respondants, meaning is same so reliable
- force chocie answers may mean different things to some pts, ‘sometimes’ may be different depending on pts, decreases validity

A

+ not forced into specific answers, rich data is more likely to be valid
- difficult to analyse, all differ
+ questions can be interpreted by respondent who can talk more freely about their opinion increasing validity
- averages cannot be calculated and compared or displayed in graphs, interpretation may be open to bias
