pathogenesis of diabetic retinopathy
-Glycosylaiton of vessel walls throughout body but particularly microvasculature eg capillaries of retina and glomeruli, collagen Denaturation, wall Thickening, capillary wall Breakdown, Microaneurysms, Dot-blot hemorrhages, Cotton-wool spots from ischemia/infarction of superficial retinal nerve fibers, beading of retinal veins, other vascular anomalies
(NON-PROLIFERATIVE Diabeitc Retinopathy) macular edema when severe (most common cause of blindness in diabetics), yellow “hard exudate” lipid deposits left behind like bathtub ring
-vessel occlusion
