A deeply divided society
The war led to the public mistrusting their government due to the empty promises made.
Returning soldiers were discriminated against many were physically beaten due to their involvement and others were refused work
Due to the rise in soldier suicides many blamed the US for letting down these soldiers and not supplying them with sufficient support
Financial impact
The US began to neglect domestic problems . Racism was a huge problem throughout the 40s - 70s and yet these problems were left unsolved
Pressure on governments
The reputation of the US was completely destroyed
The respect for the government began to dwindle in the 50s and once Vietnam had been taken over the war seemed pointless and the public felt they had been lied to
My lai massacres
In 1968 a platoon attacks a village that they believe is a base for VC
The official states 90 vc were killed but in actuality 350 men women and children all whom were innocent were murdered
