A

inflammatory condition - affects optic nerve

presentation of optic neuritis

A
  • sudden visual loss - acute, unilateral, occurs over days
  • pain on eye movement - can precede vision loss
  • change in colour perception (dyschromatopsia) - red-green
  • RAPD
  • visual field defects inc central scotoma, altitudinal defects, arcuate scotoma, depression of sensitivity in all quadrants
  • difficulty adapting to light
  • uhthoff’s phenomenon
  • bilateral less common
